Spread awareness into the world, We appreciate your support!
Did you know that when you take a training or course with us, you contribute to a good cause? We donate 5% of every training attended with us to the Unity for Albinism Foundation. Keep reading to find out which good cause we support and how you can contribute to it!
Juliette den Ouden, owner of JDO Academy, is the Ambassador of Hairdressers Without Borders and also the founder of Unity for Albinism. On this page we tell you more about both foundations and what we provide for them.

ABOUT UNITY FOR ALBINISM
Unity for Albinism: a non-profit organization committed to supporting individuals with albinism and advocating for inclusivity, awareness, and empowerment. We firmly believe in equal opportunities for all and strive to foster a society that embraces diversity.
Did you know? In some parts of Africa, the average life expectations of someone with Albinism is between the age of 15 and 30. Skin cancer is a common disease affecting people with Albinism, and in some areas of Tanzania, these people are not even safe. They are hunted and brutally slaughtered. It is still believed that the blood or limbs of people with Albinism can be used to make medication.
We hope with the help of our foundation we can empower lives and create safety. Because only together we can make a change!

SAVEHOUSE TANZANIA
With our foundation/ fundraising we support the save house “Mary Mother of God“ in Lamadi, a small town in Tanzania. Where people with albinism have been rejected by their parents or rescued from hunters and where they are cared for and educated. Unfortunately, there is little to no money for food or doctor’s fees if someone becomes ill. There is also no possibility to continue studying when someone is old enough for secondary school. We hope through our efforts that this will no longer be a problem for these kids.

STICHTING ALBINISME
IN AFRIKA
Unity For Albinism also supports the “Albinism in Africa Foundation” which fights against skin cancer in Africa for people with Albinism. This foundation receives many sunscreens sponsored by different brands but does not have the financial support to ship the containers with sunscreens to these countries.
Unity for Albinism helps raise funds to ship these containers to Africa so that people with albinism will be protected against skin cancer.

HAIRDRESSERS WITHOUT BORDERS
Juliette den Ouden, the owner of JDO Academy, has been a proud ambassador of Hairdressers Without Borders since 2019. A charity that offers education in underdeveloped countries such as India and Nepal.

ABOUT HAIRDRESSERS WITHOUT BORDERS
Hairdressers Without Borders mainly focuses on charity and educational purposes. They provide, togehther with their ambassadors, Hair and Make-up classes to beautiful and strong women who have been victims of violence or who live far below poverty line. Through these classes they get the opportunity to earn money by themselves and to support their families.
The training programs are very succesfull. At the end of the classes a personal growth of each women is visible. The women participating to the classes experience this as a great opportunity to change their lives.

NEPAL
Last year, Juliette traveled to Nepal to give those Hair and Make-up classes. Her goal was not only to grow the hair and make-up skills of those women but also to grow their self confidence.

LIVE CONDITIONS
The women trained by Hairdressers Without Borders live under very bad conditions. In the slums, the streets are full of plastic and other waste and the houses are not hygienic and safe to live in. For Juliette it was heartbreaking to see these women live under these circumstances. At the same time, this gives her extra strength to dedicate herself twice as much to this foundation and to contribute to the development of women.

INEQUALITY
In the underdeveloped countries such as India and Nepal, women are seen as inferior to the male gender. In most cases this leads to bad experiences for them, such as sexual abuse.

WAT KAN JIJ BETEKENEN?
Together with the foundation, we work hard to provide these women with education and to develop their self-image. Hairdressers Without Borders offers them the opportunity to train in the hairdressing profession in order to eventually earn money themselves. To achieve this, we can use everyone’s support, including yours!
