Nervous System & Breathwork for the beauty professional

02 · Focus area · Nervous System & Breathwork

Your workday stops. But your system is sometimes still on.

As a beauty professional you are present all day: for your work, your client, your surroundings and everything that happens in between. Nervous System & Breathwork gives you practical tools to switch more consciously between focus, tension and recovery, from short resets between clients to longer breathwork sessions when you want to make more space for yourself. No complicated routine. Practical tools that fit within the life of a beauty professional.

Recognition

Being present all day asks for more than technique.

In a salon, backstage or on set you work constantly close to people. You listen. You observe. You anticipate. You keep an eye on the time. You stay creative and professional, while the next client or job is already waiting.

On top of that come conversations, emotions, expectations and unexpected moments. That constant state of attention can mean that after a busy workday you do stop working, but you have not yet switched back down straight away.

Insight

From 'on' to recovering.

During your work your surroundings ask continuously for attention, concentration and response. After an intense day it can take time before body and mind come to rest again. The transition from working to recovering does not happen on its own for everyone.

Breathing is one of the practical ways in which you can consciously influence your pace, attention and sense of tension. Nervous System & Breathwork helps you make that transition more conscious, without having to rebuild your whole day for it.

Why breathwork

A tool you always have with you.

Your breathing happens automatically, but you can also influence it consciously. By changing the pace, rhythm and length of your breathing, you can bring your attention to your body and create moments in which you consciously slow down.

Different breath techniques have different purposes. Some are short and calm, meant as a reset during your workday. Others are longer and more intense and ask for more time, guidance and preparation.

Within JDO we do not use breathwork as a quick fix for everything, but as one of the practical tools for awareness, regulation and recovery.

What you learn

What you learn within Nervous System & Breathwork

Awareness

Recognising when you are building up tension and when you actually need a transition or reset.

Regulation

Practical ways to switch consciously between effort, focus and rest.

Breathwork

Learning to use different breath techniques for different moments and needs.

Integration

Not only doing an exercise when everything becomes too much, but building small moments into your normal workday.

On the work floor

Tools for moments that already exist in your day.

You do not have to free up an hour to learn to switch more consciously. Start at moments that are already there.

1 minute

Before your first client

Arriving for a moment before your workday truly begins. Attention to yourself before your attention goes to others.

2 minutes

Between two clients

A short reset before you switch again to the next person or task.

5 minutes

After your workday

A clear transition moment between work and private life.

10 minutes

At the end of the day

A guided exercise to consciously slow down and close off your workday.

The core

You do not always have to find more rest. Sometimes you first have to learn how to switch back down.

Two ways

Two ways to use breathwork.

Short practices for your daily life. Longer guided sessions for more depth.

In depth

The JDO 8-week group program

In this guided 8-week group program the focus is on breathwork and self-regulation: learning to apply breathwork more structurally than in short daily practices. In a small group you combine longer guided sessions with reflection, practical integration and tools you can apply in between.

Within the deepening program you can also work with Conscious Connected Breathing: a longer, active breath practice that is guided within a clear setting and with attention to preparation and integration.

By whom

Why breathwork became part of my work.

After my time behind the chair I kept going deeper into ways of dealing differently with physical and mental load. Breathwork came onto my path later and became one of the tools I have kept using myself, not only during longer sessions, but especially in small moments around work, travel and busy days.

That is why I trained further in breathwork and started exploring how you can translate these tools practically to the reality of beauty professionals. Not as a replacement for rest, medical care or other support when that is needed.

But as an accessible way to learn to switch, slow down and bring attention back to yourself more consciously.

"You do not always have to do more to take better care of yourself. Sometimes it begins with learning when you are allowed to slow down for a moment."
