JDO Wellbeing, for hairdressers, hairstylists and make-up artists

JDO Wellbeing

The beauty craft asks for more than technique alone.

For hairdressers, hairstylists and make-up artists who want to keep their energy, creativity and joy in the craft, for their entire career.

Why

Nobody teaches you how to sustain this craft in a healthy way.

Many hairdressers, hairstylists and make-up artists learn technique, trends and creativity. But within professional training there is often little attention to how you handle physical load, energy, recovery and the mental pressure of the craft.

In the salon the phone rings, your next client is waiting and meanwhile a colleague needs you. On set it is all about timing, focus and quality. You are switched on for hours, keep shifting and keep giving. Often you only notice later how much energy that asks of you.

What many professionals recognise

You come home and you are empty. Not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

All day you have listened, sensed, created, helped and kept shifting. That is part of the craft, but almost no one teaches you how to shift back down again afterwards.

For the long term

So you can keep doing what you love most.

What the craft asks

The beauty profession can feel like elite sport.

Four kinds of load the craft draws on every single day.

01

Physical load

Hours on your feet, arms raised, shoulders forward, repetitive movements. Back, neck, feet and wrists. A physical load that many training programmes give little attention to.

02

Mental load

Planning, time pressure, deadlines, clients, shoots, expectations, the phone, the team and responsibility. Your mind is often switched on all day long.

03

Emotional load

You work close to people all day. You listen, you sense, you catch their stories. That asks for more than physical energy alone.

04

Creative load

Creativity is beautiful, but also intense. You are expected to keep creating and performing, even on busy days when inspiration comes less easily.

JDO Wellbeing

Five focus areas. One goal. One sustainable career.

JDO Wellbeing is created for hairdressers, hairstylists and make-up artists. A long career in beauty asks more than technique alone: your nervous system, energy, body, mindset and creativity work together every day. That is why JDO Wellbeing consists of five focus areas that strengthen each other, from self-regulation and recovery to physical vitality, self-leadership and creative performance.

On top of that there are the JDO Collective Sessions: a live session with Juliëtte den Ouden every month, where you can ask your questions.

Deeper wellbeing trainings can be booked separately, and a dedicated JDO Salon Wellbeing Program is coming for salon teams.

By whom

I have experienced myself what happens when your body finally draws the line.

After years behind the chair came the moment when my body could not go on. Because of the many injuries that had built up over the years, I was forced to let go of hairdressing. Not because I wanted to, but because my body left me no other choice.

That is where my personal search began. First to recover and to learn again to listen to what my body needed. Later that search grew into a deeper professional development. I trained in breathwork, nervous system regulation and working more sustainably with physical and mental load.

What began out of necessity eventually changed my view of the craft. I had learned how to create, perform and keep going. But no one had taught me how to carry my body and energy through it. That experience is the personal foundation of JDO Wellbeing today.

"No one taught me how to sustain this craft in a healthy and lasting way. That is why wellbeing became an essential part of JDO Collective."
