If an organisation is supporting you back into work, a course can be part of that route. JDO is a training partner of UWV, the Dutch employee insurance agency, and we also work with participants who come through their municipality, a Werkcentrum (a Dutch regional employment service), a reintegration agency, an occupational health service or their employer.
Whether a JDO programme can be used or funded in your situation is always assessed in advance by UWV or the organisation involved, so always speak to your advisor or case worker first. Not sure which organisation that would be? We are happy to help you find out.

Make-up & Hairstyling

Allround Hair & Make-up Professional
A combined retraining programme in which you learn both professional make-up and hairstyling. You follow both programmes in an order agreed with you, working towards two certificates and one combined professional portfolio within a maximum of one year.

Career paths: Bridal, beauty retail, salons, shoots, events, productions and self-employment.
You follow the two courses one after the other, so your weekly load does not double. Whether the combined programme fits your retraining or reintegration plan is assessed per person.

You follow both programmes within twelve months, with the €250 combination benefit on the total.

The lessons are released step by step, not all at once. That way you cannot rush ahead and you do not get overwhelmed: there is a rhythm to it. At a regular pace you complete one course in around five to six months.
If you need more time, we set out a wider schedule in the training proposal, within the twelve months of access. Planned duration and access are two different things: the first is your study path, the second the period in which you can complete it.
This keeps the study load manageable and makes it easier to see the programme through. You are not tied to a class that moves on without you, so a week that does not work because of health, an appointment or your family does not put you behind. You pick up where you left off, with the same guidance and feedback as any other student.
Need more hands-on guidance?
For some participants a combination of online learning and intensive practical days on location works better. With Immersion you prepare online and then apply the techniques under direct supervision across several practical days.
You join the next Immersion with places available, so you do not have to adjust your study pace to it.
We only recommend this learning path when it suits your goal, your capacity and your personal situation.

They retrained alongside work and family
With a family and a demanding job, I could not travel to a campus every week. Online Guided gave me the freedom to learn whenever it worked at home, with guidance that kept me on track. I now work part time as a make-up artist and set my own hours.
A full on-site course was not realistic for me. Online Guided still allowed me to train professionally alongside my job. After finishing, I started as a beauty consultant, using my product knowledge and make-up techniques every day.

Can I follow a make-up or hairstyling course through UWV?

JDO is a training partner of UWV, the Dutch employee insurance agency. Whether a JDO programme can be used or funded in your situation is always assessed in advance by UWV or the organisation involved. Always discuss it with your advisor first. We are happy to think along afterwards.
I am coming through a municipality or a reintegration agency instead of UWV, is that possible?

A course can also be discussed with your municipality, a Werkcentrum, a reintegration agency, a job coach, an occupational health service or your employer. That organisation decides whether funding is possible. After an intake, JDO can provide a suitable training proposal.
Can I combine make-up and hairstyling?

Yes. In the Allround Hair & Make-up Professional programme you follow both courses within a schedule agreed with you. Whether the combination fits your retraining plan is assessed in advance.
Can I start straight away?

If an organisation may fund your course, only start once you have written approval. Starting without it carries the risk that the costs are not reimbursed. If you fund the course yourself, you can start straight away.
Does JDO prepare a proposal for my advisor?

Yes. After an intake we can prepare a personal training proposal covering the programme, planning, study load, guidance, completion and costs.
Am I on my own during an online course?

No. Online Guided is guided learning. You follow a clear programme, hand in practical assignments and receive personal feedback on them, and there are monthly live JDO Academy Sessions with your educator and fellow students. You learn at home, but never on your own.
Do I need experience to start?

No. The JDO Method guides you step by step from the basics to professional level. Many participants come from a completely different field. Motivation and the willingness to practise matter more than prior knowledge.
How much time does it take per week?

Expect four to six hours a week: watching online lessons, practising and completing assignments. You schedule that yourself within the agreed period, which makes it easier to combine with a reintegration programme, caring responsibilities or a job.
Do I receive a certificate?

Yes, you receive a JDO certificate once you have completed the programme. The Make-up Artist Class also ends with a portfolio exam. JDO Academy is CRKBO-registered, which means the courses are exempt from Dutch VAT.
How long do I have access to the learning platform?

You have twelve months of access to the JDO learning platform. Within that period you can watch the modules as often as you like. After twelve months your access ends.
