International Hair & Make-up Artist · Educator · Founder of the JDO Method
Learn from 25+ years of international industry experience
Juliette den Ouden has worked for more than twenty-five years across beauty, hair, fashion, editorial, education and international productions.
The JDO Method grew from that experience.
Not from learning one fixed way of working, but from understanding how to read a face, make creative decisions, adapt to different people and situations, and create with intention.
That is what students learn at JDO Academy.
You do not simply follow steps or copy looks. You learn to understand why something works, how to adapt it and how to develop your own confidence and artistic identity.
You do not have to spend twenty-five years figuring it all out for yourself.
And you do not have to wait until you can travel.
You can begin learning the JDO Method from India through our Online Guided programme, and if you later join an Immersion in the Netherlands, you arrive prepared and ready to go deeper through hands-on training, feedback and real creative practice.

the programme
What you actually learn
Two programmes, each built in eight chapters that follow on from one another. Each chapter assumes the one before it, which is why the Method works for complete beginners as well as for artists who already work professionally.
You are trained broadly, not for one style. The same foundation of skin, structure, balance and holding power is what lets you work on weddings and celebrations, commercial and beauty work, salon clients, and editorial and photoshoots. You learn to read a face and a brief, so you can build a soft bridal look and a graphic editorial look with the same understanding.

9 training days
These are the days the whole training builds towards, and you do not arrive among strangers. You have been meeting the same group and Juliette every month for months, and you already know the Method, the tools and the people who will be teaching you. So you walk in with confidence instead of nerves. Nobody spends the first day settling in. You go straight into the depth of what you already know.
Everything you learned on your own at home, you now do together, with someone looking over your shoulder and helping you make it better. The days run back to back, and that intensity does something a weekly class cannot: you go through it as a group, and that stays with you long after. The week ends with a professional shoot that becomes the foundation of your portfolio. That is the part you cannot get through a screen.
Woven through the week is a small part of JDO Collective, our work on building a career in this industry that lasts. Practical tools you take home with you, alongside the craft.
You start your training today and travel in June. A module is released every week, so to be part of this edition you join before 26 January 2027 for Make-up or 21 February 2027 for Hairstyling. Join later and you simply go to the following edition. Your exact dates and the exact training venue go into your visa documentation, and we confirm both well before you book anything.
What the days in the Netherlands give you
These are the parts of the programme a screen cannot deliver, and the reason attendance is required.
- ✓Hands-on work on live models, with the educators standing beside you
- ✓Correction while you work, not feedback on a photo afterwards
- ✓A professional photoshoot with booked models, for your portfolio
- ✓Your certificate handed to you in person
- ✓The group you have been learning with online, now in the same room

one programme, start to finish
One pathway, two required phases
Your Immersion is one complete professional education pathway. The online preparation and the practical training in the Netherlands are both required parts of it, not two options to pick from.
the pathway
Immersion
Phase one is the guided online preparation you follow from India. Phase two is the practical training with us in the Netherlands, where you apply the Method hands-on, shoot your portfolio and receive your certificate in person. The days on location are not an extra on top of an online course, they are a required part of the programme you enrolled in and the programme is not complete without them.
How those two phases run, step by step, is the route at the top of this page.

You have access to the online programme for twelve months, which is time enough to finish it calmly alongside your work. After those twelve months your access ends.
for students who choose Immersion and require a visa
Visa documentation support
Your Immersion is one complete professional education pathway: guided online preparation followed by required practical training in the Netherlands. The practical phase cannot be delivered remotely: it consists of hands-on work on live models under direct supervision, professional photoshoots with booked models, and in-person assessment and certification. For that reason attendance in the Netherlands is a required part of the programme, and a student who does not attend does not complete it. JDO Academy prepares the official educational documentation required from our side for your visa application.
What JDO provides
- ✓Official enrolment confirmation
- ✓Confirmation of the selected programme and learning pathway
- ✓Confirmation of the online preparation phase and its start date
- ✓Programme description and training structure
- ✓Confirmed Immersion dates and training location
- ✓Programme schedule and training itinerary
- ✓Tuition and payment confirmation
- ✓Confirmation of the reserved Immersion place
- ✓Expected programme completion date
- ✓JDO Academy institutional and contact information
Additional programme or academy information can be provided where reasonably requested by the relevant visa authority.
What your consultancy does
- ✓Advises you on which visa applies to your situation
- ✓Checks your file before it is submitted
- ✓Books your appointment and guides you through it
- ✓Keeps the deadlines for your chosen Immersion in view
- ✓Is your first point of contact throughout the process
JDO works alongside your consultancy, we do not replace them and we never submit the application ourselves.
What you arrange yourself
- ✓The visa application and the appointment
- ✓Passport and personal documents
- ✓Proof of financial means
- ✓Flights and travel reservations
- ✓Accommodation
- ✓Travel insurance
- ✓Any additional documents requested by the relevant authorities
For €350, JDO prepares the official educational and enrolment documentation required from our side to support your visa application. It is a separate service, it is not a visa application service, and it becomes non-refundable once we have started preparing your personalised documentation.
The visa application is managed and submitted by you or your local visa partner, and the decision rests with the relevant visa authority. We do not give immigration or legal advice and we cannot guarantee that a visa will be granted or that entry will be permitted.
how to enrol
Enrol in Immersion, choose when you begin
When you enrol, your place for the selected Immersion in the Netherlands is reserved. If you require a visa, JDO prepares the official educational documentation from our side for a separate €350 documentation fee. You then choose between two start options. You can see what the Dutch authorities ask for in their official checklist for applicants from India.
What it costs, in full
Make-up
- Tuition, 5% off

Hairstyling
- Tuition, 5% off

- €155
Both
- Tuition, €500 duo
- €7.900€7.400
- Documentation
- €350
- 3 shoot models
- €465
Students receive 12 months programme access, which allows time for study, visa processing and
travel preparation. Within the Immersion pathway the in-person phase in the Netherlands is a
required part of the programme, not an optional addition.
Tuition and the documentation fee are paid when you enrol: €4.340 for Make-up,
€3.865 for Hairstyling, €7.750 for both. The shoot models are paid later, once
your travel is confirmed, because we book them for your final shoot.
A single programme paid in one go carries a 5% discount, already included above. Taking both
carries the €500 duo benefit instead; the two do not combine.
Then you make one choice
Do you want to start learning straight away, or wait until your visa is approved? You decide this when you enrol, and it decides what happens if your visa is refused.
Option A
Start the JDO Method now
begin the JDO Method today
- ✓You open the app and start the Method the moment you enrol.
- ✓You are already months into your training by the time you travel.
- ✓No time is lost while your application is being processed.
If your visa is refused
You transfer from the Immersion pathway to Online Guided and continue your JDO education from India, against the official written refusal. Your Immersion reservation is released and we refund the difference between the two pathways, so you only pay for the education you actually received. The €350 documentation fee is non-refundable once we have started preparing your personalised documentation.
| You paid | Back | You keep paying | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Make-up | €4.340 | €2.040 | €2.300 |
| Hairstyling | €3.865 | €1.565 | €2.300 |
| Both | €7.750 | €3.750 | €4.000 |
What you keep paying is the Online Guided programme you actually finish, plus the €350. The shoot models are never charged, because we only book them once your travel is confirmed.
You complete your certificate from India as an Online Guided student, and you keep your place in the monthly Academy Sessions.
Option B
Wait for approval
start once your visa is granted
- ✓Your place is reserved and your documentation is prepared.
- ✓Your education begins once your visa has been granted.
- ✓You start with the full picture, knowing you are going.
If your visa is refused
You receive the full programme fee back, against the official written refusal from the authorities. Your education had not started yet, so the tuition comes back in full. The €350 documentation fee stays with us, because your file was prepared and delivered.
| You paid | Back | You keep paying | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Make-up | €4.340 | €3.990 | €350 |
| Hairstyling | €3.865 | €3.515 | €350 |
| Both | €7.750 | €7.400 | €350 |
Whichever programme you chose, the €350 is all you keep paying. Your tuition comes back in full and the shoot models are never charged.
The trade-off is time. You wait before you begin, and the Method only starts once you know.
Visa requirements and enrolment options can differ by country. Our Program Advisor confirms the route that applies to your situation before you enrol.
Choose the option that gives you the right balance between certainty and starting without delay.
The €350 in both cases
The €350 documentation fee sits on top of your tuition and is never set off against it. It is a separate service: preparing your personalised visa documentation. Whatever the outcome of your application, that work has been done and delivered, so this fee is not refunded.
in their own words
International students. Different countries. One JDO Method.
Students around the world follow the JDO Method through Immersion or Online Guided. Prepare from home and travel to the Netherlands for a focused practical experience, or complete your professional training from wherever you live.
“Preparing online before travelling made the Immersion incredibly valuable. I arrived in the Netherlands already familiar with the JDO Method, so I could focus fully on working with models, receiving direct correction and developing my skills. The professional portfolio shoot brought everything together. I returned home with greater confidence, stronger work and a much clearer professional direction.”
Student from South Africa
“Travelling to the Netherlands was a major decision, so I wanted the experience to be worth it. Because I prepared online first, the practical days were focused, personal and hands-on from the beginning. Working alongside the educators and completing the professional shoot gave me an experience I could never have created from home alone.”
Student from the United Arab Emirates
“When travelling to the Netherlands was not possible for me, Online Guided allowed me to continue developing professionally from home. I followed the complete JDO Method, submitted my assignments and received personal feedback throughout. I had the flexibility of online learning without feeling that I had to do everything alone.”

Questions we get most
Who can apply? +
Students from India and other countries outside the EU are welcome. There is no academic or professional requirement and you do not need a beauty background. We have students who start from zero and students who already work professionally and come to add the JDO Method to what they can already do. The minimum age is 18. All education is taught in English.
Does the Method work for Indian skin tones? +
Yes. Colour theory is part of the Method from the start: you develop insight into colour, undertones and working professionally with different skin types and skin tones, including deeper skin. You are not taught one look for one kind of face. You are taught to read the face in front of you and decide from there, which is what makes the Method travel.
When does it start and where does the Immersion take place? +
Your training starts as soon as you enrol. The Immersion takes place in the Netherlands: Make-up from 15 to 19 June 2027, Hairstyling from 20 to 23 June 2027, and if you take both you are with us from 15 to 23 June. Because a module is released every week, you need to have enrolled by 26 January 2027 for Make-up and by 21 February 2027 for Hairstyling. If you take both, 26 January is your date.
What kind of visa do I need? +
Your stay is short: 15 to 19 June for Make-up, 20 to 23 June for Hairstyling, and 15 to 23 June if you take both. For a stay of that length a short-stay Schengen visa is generally the relevant route. We prepare the educational documentation that supports your application, including your exact training dates. We do not give immigration advice and the application itself stays with you, so always check the current requirements with the Dutch authorities.
What if my visa is approved, but too late for the Immersion I chose? +
Then your place moves to the next edition. Nothing is lost: you keep learning online in the meantime, you keep your guidance and your access, and you join the Immersion after that one. The online phase is the part that takes the months anyway, so arriving at a later edition only means you arrive with more practice behind you.
What products and tools do I need, and do you ship them? +
We do not ship products to India. Importing cosmetics into India is heavily regulated and the duties and delays make it impractical, so you buy your materials locally. You receive a detailed list from us that describes exactly what each item has to do: the type of brush, the shape, the undertones your palette needs. You can put that together anywhere, and learning to judge your own materials is part of the craft. For Hairstyling you can buy a practice head in India, or practise on models. Either is fine.
What time are the live Academy Sessions in Indian time? +
The sessions run on Dutch time, and India is three and a half to four and a half hours ahead depending on the season, so an evening session in the Netherlands falls late at night for you. You do not have to be awake for it: every session is recorded and you watch it back in the JDO Collective Community whenever it suits you. Your questions and your work still get answered either way, because feedback on your assignments runs separately from the sessions.
Who arranges the models for the shoots? +
We do. Professional models are booked for the shoots, so you work with the kind of face and hair you will meet on a real job. The model fee is listed separately from the tuition: €310 for the two models on the Make-up shoot, €155 for the one model on the Hairstyling shoot, and €465 if you take both programmes.
How can I pay from India? +
Through the website, in one payment, with credit card or PayPal. Payments run through Stripe and are charged in euros, so your bank converts at the rate of the day. You pay the tuition together with the €350 documentation fee when you enrol.
Is the JDO certificate a diploma? +
It is a JDO Academy certificate: a private training certificate from our academy, not a government diploma. JDO Academy is registered with the CRKBO and exempt from VAT. What it carries is the work behind it, which is why every programme ends with a professional shoot and portfolio material you can show.
Do I get a certificate, and is there an exam? +
Every student who completes the programme receives a JDO certificate. On the Make-up Artist Class there is also an exam. You build your exam portfolio online during your preparation and submit it before you travel, so the assessment is already behind you when the Immersion starts. A pass gives you the official JDO exam certificate. The exam and the certificate are the same whether you finish online or travel for the Immersion. On Hairstyling there is no exam. You practise throughout the programme, your work is reviewed by the JDO Academy educators, and you receive your certificate on completion.
What if JDO moves or cancels an Immersion? +
If we move an edition, your place moves with it to the new dates. If we cancel an edition and there is no edition that works for you, you get your money back. Your online learning is unaffected either way, because that part does not depend on the dates in the Netherlands.
What is included in the tuition? +
Included: the complete JDO Method in the app, personal feedback on your work, monthly live Academy Sessions with Juliette, free access to the JDO Collective Community, one month of JDO Collective Membership, your practical Immersion days in the Netherlands, a professional final shoot, portfolio development and your JDO certificate.
Not included: the shoot models, which are required and paid separately, and everything around your trip: flights, accommodation, meals, travel and health insurance, local transport, your own materials and professional kit, and the visa application itself. The €350 covers exactly one thing: the educational documentation JDO prepares for your file. The application, its fees and the appointment are yours.
Do you arrange accommodation? +
You arrange your own stay. We confirm the exact training location well before you book flights or apply for your visa, and we are happy to point you in the right direction so you book somewhere close to it.
What happens after the programme? +
You keep access to the free JDO Collective Community, where artists connect, share work and find briefs and collaborations. Every student also receives one month of JDO Collective Membership with their programme. After that month you decide for yourself whether you continue. Nothing renews automatically.
